Greenfield Dragway Race Report, August 15-17, 2014

The 11th annual Super Saturday Bracket Bash took place this past weekend and racers from all over the Maritimes converged on Greenfield to take a shot at the beefy purses. Over 190 competitors entered the event which pushed the total payout to $16,800!

The first round of box eliminator saw over 70 entries in the lanes, and with buybacks, round two still had 56 competitors make the call, setting-up a seven round war of attrition. In the 6th round semi- final, the brothers Howatt squared off and it was Clayton who took the win with his small block Dart when Bruce turned on the red with his big block powered Roadrunner. In the other pairing, Chris Naugler from New Elm used a .007 start to track down Mark Slaunwhite from Terence Bay. Slaunwhite was perfect on the tree but tripped the timers with a 9.62 on his 9.63 dial-in. In the final Naugler squeezed the trigger a fraction early with a -.005 RT to hand the victory to Clayton Howatt and a tidy cheque for over $4200.

In no-box nearly 100 entries made the call to round one; while 88 returned for the second round, setting up an eight round eliminator. Mike Ingram from Sackville, NS weathered the storm and took the semi-final bye run to claim his spot in the final. Wellington, PEI's Brett Ramsay punched his ticket to the final when Glenn Frizzell red-lighted away his chances on his 1000cc Arctic Cat. In a very tight final, Ramsay ran 10.914 on a 10.91 dial to take the win over Ingram's 12.834 on 12.82 effort. The victory gave young Ramsay a whopping $4700 pay day while Ingram pocketing nearly $1800.

In the Junior B category for 8-11yr drivers it was Markus Meehan taking the victory over Lacy Weir in the final. Cale Johnson from Bridgewater took third with a victory Elliot Sprague of Norton, NB.

The Junior A class for drivers 12 years and older had Middle Sackville's Logan Power claim top spot when he defeated Ashley Walker in the final. Rebecca Lawrence from Lawrencetown finished third. Power also claimed Junior King of the Hill honors when he defeated Meehan in a battle of the class winners.
