In the spring of 2010 the Track Operators implemented the rule that Delay Boxes were prohibited in the Pro and Sportsman classes. Since that time there have been innovations in the world of drag racing that have forced us to revisit this issue and update the rule.
At the Track Operator's meeting in November 2014, the Track Operators revised the rule to the following – Delay Box/Devices are prohibited in the Pro and Sportsman classes. The Track Operators also adopted the following definition of what a Delay Box/Device consists of. The wording is from the NHRA rulebook as it is the clearest definition.
A delay box or delay device is defined as any device (electric, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, etc.) built for the express purpose of creating a delay between the release of transbrake, line-loc, or two-step button, or release of foot or hand brake, or release of clutch pedal/lever, or release of any other device and the resultant action of the vehicle.
All switches, buttons, wiring, solenoids, etc. must be for normal automotive use; i.e., not intended to create a delay (adjustable or non-adjustable) between release of the button and the resultant action of the solenoid.
The remaining rules regarding delay box/device remain in effect. However just to refresh your memories here are the rules.
Starting with the 2010 race season all Pro and Sportsman Vehicles will be subject to RANDOM CHECKS for delay box/devices. Be advised random checks are not limited to the initial visit to the tech shed. You may be asked to make the vehicle available for inspection at any time during the event weekend.
This does not apply to time trials, gamblers, quick 32, etc., however, if entering a No Box race (eg. Gamblers) the delay box/device must be removed from the vehicle.
Any of the above vehicles found with a delay box/device of any kind in or on the vehicle (whether wired or not) during elimination racing shall result in:
First offence - Immediate disqualification of driver and vehicle from the event, forfeiture of any and all entry fees paid, any and all winnings (money), as well as loss of any track and ADRA points for that event.
All other tracks will be alerted. The first offence will be filed against the vehicle and driver at all tracks as if it occurred at each track.
Second Offence - Immediate disqualification of driver and vehicle from the event, forfeiture of any and all entry fees paid, any and all winnings (money), as well as loss of any track and ADRA points for the year. The offending driver will be fined $100.00 (Payable to the ADRA as a donation).
Failure to pay the fine will result in the driver and vehicle being barred from all tracks in the Maritimes until the fine is paid.
Third Offence – Immediate disqualification of driver and vehicle from the event, forfeiture of any and all entry fees paid, any and all winnings (money).
Both the vehicle and driver shall be banned from further events for the balance of the year at all tracks in the Maritimes. In the event this occurs at the last regular or point's event of the year at any track the vehicle and driver shall be banned for the following year.
